Lexi Thompson had what would appear to be a safe lead in the LPGA Ana golf tournament at Mission Hills, California. That was until she approached the 13th tee during the final round and was told by an official that she been assessed 4 stroke penalty for improperly replacing a marked ball by approximately an inch. This penalty was the result of some "fan" or tv viewer in this case that had nothing better to do but send an email to the LPGA of this major discovery they had come across.
Rules are rules and I have no problem with players being assessed a penalty for some infraction. In this case the so called infraction took place during Saturday's round, some 24 hours earlier.
I do have a big problem with golf allowing tv viewers to be their judges during tournaments. There are officials that are assigned to each group out on the course and if they happen to miss some infraction, then so be it. Playing golf is tough enough without having a million tv viewers acting as officials. Imagine if the general public could let the NFL, NBA, or NCAA know every time they feel some official missed a call and then be able to assess the penalty later on during the middle of the game. If the LPGA is going to allow non golfing tv viewers judge their tournaments, then I think it is only fair that that the tv officials's name should be made available. After all, doesn"t the accused have the right to face their accuser? Better yet, let the course officials run their tournament and let the tv "judges" just maybe get a life.

The PGA and LPGA should put out some money and get so excited more rules officials. It's their job to watch. It doesn't look like they got enough if they miss calls
Good points, I've said the call in judges are the most obsurd thing in golf for years now
I agree w/you on that
Oh , complete joke, why would anyone waiste their time watching when that happens
