A FEW THOUGHTS ABOUT NCAA COLLEGE FOOTBALL

The regular season has pretty much come to an end with the numerous number of bowl games forthcoming.  Some thoughts come to mind regarding college football in general.

HEISMAN TROPHY     Nothing against the 3 finalists for this years award. but to be honest, I could care less who wins the Heisman.  The award is pretty much a popularity contest and I have no faith in those who do the voting ever since Johnny Manziel won a few years ago.  Manziel's QB stats that year ranked him # 16 in the country, but somehow that was good enough to be named the most outstanding college football player in the country.  Big time public relations campaign won out over those who were more qualified to win.  For me, the Heisman Trophy became tarnished and less meaningful.

NCAA          I see where it appears the NCAA once again looks to be deceitful in one of their high profile investigations.  This time it involves USC and the   Reggie Bush story and how the NCAA named assistant coach, Todd McNair as knowing about Bush"s violations and later McNair was fired from his job.  McNair filed a defamation law suit against the NCAA and has since been granted to proceed as the courts determined that the NCAA conducted a malicious investigation towards McNair.  University of Miami, Penn State, and now USC.  It seems that the underhanded works of the NCAA are never ending.  The NCAA needs to be disbanded and its leader, Mark Emmert along with his cronies need to be fired at the very least.

BOWL GAMES      Anyone think that possibly there are too many bowl games?  40 bowl games this year, involving 80 teams are to be rewarded for so called successful seasons.  How successful is it when 3 teams this year will be honored for their 5-7 records?  Teams in previous years needed at least 6 wins to qualify for bowl game honors.  How successful of a season is it when a few of those wins came against Division II opponents?  Too many bowl games have truly taken away the idea of what a
successful season really is.  The 5-7 teams can do no better than a 6-7 season and they will be joined by a few of the 6-6 teams that happen to lose their bowl games to finish at 6-7.  Maybe it is me, but I do not see where a losing record is anything to get excited about.

MORE ABOUT BOWL GAMES        Every year we see a number of players getting suspended for various reasons that does not allow then to participate in their respective bowl game.  Violations in the past leading to suspensions have been for drug use, academics, or even on a larger scale like robbery or domestic violence.  One can only wonder how many players from 80 bowl teams this year will not be participating.

FINAL FOUR          Everyone has an opinion on how the final four teams should have been rated and who will win the national championship this year.  I know everyone is anxious to see what our thoughts are.
1.     ALABAMA
2.     OKLAHOMA
3.     CLEMSON
4.     MICHIGAN STATE
NATIONAL CHAMPION                    OKLAHOMA

I can't keep track of all the bowls. They give every team a chance for a bowl now. Why don't they just hand out mulligans so teams can get do-overs for a lost game

Collegiate sports would be better off with a new governing organization and without the NCAA
