SOME GOOD AND NOT SO GOOD FROM COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEK ONE

Most games truly presented not much interest as teams played lesser opponents to start off their season.  There were a couple games of interest which created some thoughts of some teams that looked good and some that did not.

OUR GOOD TEAM AWARDS

ALABAMA       The Tide looked solid and impressive in their win over a decent, Wisconsin team.

NORTHWESTERN   Upset win over # 23 ranked Stanford.

NOTRE DAME     Big win over Texas, 38-3.  Is Notre Dame that good or is Texas not as good as they had hoped??

OUR NOT SO GOOD AWARDS

TEXAS     Nothing Texas did in that game looked promising.  163 yards of offense with the QB being chased all over the field along with a defense that basically stopped nothing made it for a long day against the Irish.  Charlie Strong has been hyped as the coach to bring the Texas program back to notoriety, but more performances like this weekend and fans might wish, Mack Brown was still around.

PENN STATE     Highly touted QB, Christian Hackenberg completed just 11 of 25 passes for a total of 106 yards.  Certainly not all american stats but in some defense of Hackenberg, he was under pressure all day being sacked 10 times, mostly due to an inept offensive line and some boring unimaginative play calling.  Offensive line was weak  last year and coach, Franklin promised improvement. but losing to Temple has to be nothing less than embarrassing and nothing close to signs of improvement.  It was pointed out to us that coach, Franklin has a 7-17 record against teams that finished the season with a winning record.  Franklin is known for his recruiting ability, but maybe as a head coach, he is not as good as Penn State had hoped.

As always, all comments are welcomed

I predicted the big win from the TIDE. Texas, Penn St and Stanford were just plain bad

notre dame's monstrous win was a result of them being good and texas being less than average. It wasn't as big of a surprise as the n.western victory

The PSU conundrum was the biggest surprise to me. They played good to start then applied the brakes to coast the rest of the game while Temple pounded on them. IT wasn't a start I expected
