DRUGS AND ALCOHOL CONSUMING INDIANA UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL

It seems that a week does not go by when we are writing about some athlete doing something stupid to possibly put at risk their free college education or potential future.  This week is no different when it comes to Big 10, Indiana University.  Looking back from the start of this year, IU has had plenty to deal with.

February................Hanner Mosquera-Perea     Arrested for OWI
2 months later.........Stanford Robinson and Yogi Ferrell      Cited for underage consumption of alcohol
November 1.........Freshman. Emmit Holt    Illegal consumption of alcohol and for operating a vehicle
under the influence of alcohol resulting in an accident.  Holt struck teammate, Devin Davis
resulting in a serious head injury to Davis.
November 3........Announced a 4 game suspension for Stanford Robinson and Troy Williams for failure of
a drug test.  Appears Robinson still has not learned.

Some might say  these offenses are men just being college students and this is what students do.  These players represent their university and I am sure this is not the type of reputation coach, Tom Crean wants his program to be portrayed as.  Being cited for alcohol offenses is extremely bad judgment but failing a drug test is just plain stupid, when you are always being randomly tested.  So what is the problem at Indiana?  Is it that Crean is not making the message clear or are these players not capable of comprehending what is expected of them?  If this abuse continues, Crean will run out of players and the season will not look very bright.

if anything, it sounds like IU is having trouble controlling their athletes recently. Lot of times when this happens it bcause of coach or athletic dictator changes. i'm not sure that i'm aware of any recent change at IU

Their performance this season is reflective of the free time they have to violate rules and laws

it looks like drinking might be the problem for IU athletes. maybe practices need to be longer. they have too much time to drink
