BRIAN KELLY CRIES OVER NOTRE DAME LOSS

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly upset with game ending call.

FLORIDA STATE  31   NOTRE DAME   27... Great game to watch as it came down to the final seconds before a winner was determined.  It appeared that Notre Dame had scored a TD to go ahead and win the game on a short pass with seconds left, only to have the score denied due to an offensive interference call.  Immediately we saw ND coach, Brian Kelly out on the field protesting and pleading his case against the penalty.  From Kelly. we would not have expected anything less.  He complained that no call should be made like that late in the game to decide the outcome.  What that means is:  never make that call if it goes against my team.  Kelly stated that Florida State was rewarded for playing poor defense on that play.  We agree:  Florida State had blown assignments on that play but that does not give the Irish the right to use offensive interference to their advantage.   Notre Dame got away with a similar play in the 1st quarter when no penalty was called.  Yes fans. Kelly got away with a missed no call.  Florida State called that no call to the officials attention which may explain how they were able to easily pick it up in the 4th quarter.  In other words, the officials were ready for it.  Kelly says they do not practice illegal plays.  I  will not argue that, but it all honesty I have a problem in believing anything Brian Kelly says.   Brian Kelly can cry all he wants but the bottom line is very simple........the correct call was made.  If the Notre Dame receiver had either stopped his blocking totally or broke off the block to make it appear that he was now running a pass route, the call would never have been made.  In other words....  ND receiver ran the play incorrectly and Kelly has nothing to cry about.  Personally I did not care who would win that game. but to see Brian Kelly moan, complain, and cry,  I must admit I find it most gratifying.
